Fresh Eyes, Fresh Ideas: What That Means for the Clerk’s Office

When I say I bring fresh eyes and fresh ideas to the Clerk and Recorder’s Office, I don’t mean change for the sake of change. I mean taking a step back, looking at how things are working today, and asking a simple question:

Is this working well for the people who use it?

Because at the end of the day, this office isn’t about processes—it’s about people.

Like many of you, I’ve stood in line, filled out paperwork, and just wanted things to be clear, simple, and efficient. Those everyday experiences matter. They show us where things work—and where they don’t.

What “Fresh Eyes” Really Means

Sometimes when you’ve done something the same way for years, it becomes routine. And when something becomes routine, it can be hard to see where improvements are needed.

Fresh eyes bring a different perspective:

  • Looking at long wait times and asking how we can reduce them

  • Seeing confusion and asking how we can make information clearer

  • Not assuming “this is just how it’s done,” but asking “can we do it better?”

That’s how real improvement starts.

What “Fresh Ideas” Look Like in Practice

This isn’t about big promises—it’s about practical solutions that make a real difference:

  • Improving customer flow so people aren’t standing in line longer than necessary

  • Updating online services so more can be done before you ever walk in the door

  • Making information easier to find and understand

  • Using appointment options where they make sense

  • Keeping services efficient without losing the personal, local touch

These are straightforward improvements—but they matter.

Balancing Efficiency and Service

Technology can make things faster, but it should never replace good service.

In a rural county like ours, people still value being able to talk to someone, ask questions, and get help when they need it. That’s not something we lose—it’s something we protect.

The goal is balance:Better systems + personal service = a better experience for everyone

Why This Matters

The Clerk and Recorder’s Office touches some of the most important parts of everyday life:

  • Registering your vehicle

  • Recording your property documents

  • Running secure, accurate elections

  • Handling vital records like marriage licenses

These aren’t small things. They need to be done right—and they need to be done well.

A Commitment to You

My commitment is simple:

  • Be straightforward and transparent

  • Focus on solutions, not routines

  • Make the office easier to use and easier to understand

  • Keep everything secure, accurate, and running smoothly

Because this office should work for you—not the other way around.

Neighbor to Neighbor

This campaign, and this office, is about serving our community.

It’s about listening, improving, and making sure that when you walk into the Clerk’s Office—or visit it online—you know you’re being treated with respect and your time matters.

That’s what fresh eyes and fresh ideas mean to me.
